Hosenfeld Chiropractic/Apple Healthcare Group - Services

It is our objective to provide hands-on health care that supports a family commitment to overall well-being. We provide comfortable, quality chiropractic, therapy, and medicinal treatment while we strive to give patients relief from pain as well as offer long term corrective care by tending to their unique conditions. Our doctors and practitioners have the right touch for gentle care and adjustments while working with all ages from infant to elderly. We realize each patient has distinct needs and we provide personal care that is proficient and effective. Chiropractic Manipulation and Adjustments - The chiropractic spinal adjustment/manipulation represents the cornerstone of chiropractic treatment. Spinal adjustments are used successfully to treat a variety of various spinal disorders as well as a number of other health problems. Chiropractic doctors are the only health care professionals trained to deliver the chiropractic spinal adjustment.

Spinal adjustments or spinal manipulation is the process of applying a quick but gentle pressure to "mis-aligned" vertebrae in a corrective manner. Many years of study and practice are necessary to acquire the skills of providing an effective and safe spinal adjustment.

Research has shown spinal adjustments to be the most effective treatment in numerous conditions including back pain. This is because spinal adjustments correct many of the structural, bio-mechanical and neurological abnormalities of the spine which cause or contribute to a high number of back, neck and other non-spinal ailments.

Cutting Edge Therapy and Rehabilitation - In addition to offering several types of chiropractic treatment, we find it beneficial to utilize the latest in physical therapy and rehabilitative techniques. To compliment the doctors’ care, there are licensed massage therapists, certified athletic trainer, physical therapy technicians and licensed Chiropractic Therapy Assistants that provide services to help patients understand healing and how to achieve maximum wellness.

Lumbar/Cervical Decompression/Traction – This is a state of the art non-surgical procedure designed to relieve pain associated with herniated discs, degenerative discs, facet syndrome, arthritis, and sciatica. This technique provides traction (to either the lumbar or cervical spine region) which helps the vertebrae column to gently elongate while alleviating pressure, promoting blood and fluid flow, and improving healing -without costly and invasive spinal surgery.

Digital X-Ray - We provide the latest in state of the art DIGITAL x-ray, which allows the doctor to make a more accurate diagnosis. All patients will receive a report of findings, where they will have an opportunity to review their x-rays with the doctor and discuss the steps needed to restore them to proper function. Upon request, we are able to provide your x-rays onto a CD for you to view at home or for your primary care doctor to review. With more extreme injuries the doctor’s utilize various offsite imaging techniques, such as MRI’s, CT scans etc, to provide more information.

Nerve Conduction Velocity testing - A nerve conduction velocity test, also called a nerve conduction study, measures how quickly electrical impulses move along a nerve. This test allows us to identify where a nerve is irritated and not allowing proper flow to certain parts of the arms or legs.

EKG-An electrocardiogram, or EKG, is a simple, painless test that records the heart's electrical activity. With each heartbeat, an electrical signal spreads from the top of the heart to the bottom. As it travels, the signal causes the heart to contract and pump blood. The process repeats with each new heartbeat. The heart's electrical signals set the rhythm of the heartbeat. This test will tell us: how fast your heart is beating, whether the rhythm of your heartbeat is steady or irregular and the strength and timing of electrical signals as they pass through each part of your heart. This test helps us to identify discomfort that is not necessarily from the musculoskeletal system, such as a heart attack, arrhythmia, or heart failure.

Spirometry - (meaning the measuring of breath) is the most common of the Pulmonary Function Tests, measuring lung function, specifically the measurement of the amount volume and/or speed (flow) of air that can be inhaled and exhaled. Spirometry is an important tool used for generating graphs which are helpful in assessing conditions such as asthma, COPD, and many other bronchial conditions.

Medicinal Intervention - We have found through an integrative and functional approach in our rehabilitation setting that certain conditions require the combination of a medicinal approach and allows our patients to succeed to the next level of correction by decreasing their pain with the aid of gentle medications.

Trigger Point Injections - The very gentle injections into the muscle belly where a micro-spasm or trigger point is located can provide great relief in times where treatment is needed to cut the pain cycle. The medications used can range from saline, lidocaine, to cortisone.

Joint Injections/Aspirations - There are conditions that can be stubborn and slow to react to conservative manual methods and the process can be sped up through an injection. A joint injection is an injection of a steroid or other medication into a joint. The medication injected, usually a steroid, is meant to reduce the inflammation and/or swelling of tissue in the joint space. This may in turn reduce pain, and other symptoms caused by inflammation or irritation of the joint and surrounding structures.

Minor Injury Care and First Aid - Small injuries pop up regularly that are too much for home care, but too little for the emergency room, in these times, we are available to reduce your time to getting the care you need by providing on-sight treatment in a courteous, friendly, and effective fashion.

Minor Illness Care - Our nurse practitioners will evaluate and diagnose your symptoms when your not feeling your best. In those times when its difficult to get in with your primary care doctor, we will help bridge the gap in treatment for many ailments including: allergy symptoms, body aches, cough, motion sickness, nasal congestion, urinary tract infections, pink eye, sinus issues, flu-like symptoms, sore throat, earaches, cough, itchy eyes and more.

Flexibility training - An integral part in all rehabilitation settings, the information is bountiful of the benefits of flexibility including improved physical performance, decreased risk of injury, reduced muscle soreness, improved posture, and increased blood and nutrients to the tissues. We complement your treatment by providing you with the understanding of how to perform home stretches and perform these techniques on you to provide the head start needed.

Sensory - Motor and Balance Training - Sensory motor exercises can return more balance to the brain by selectively stimulating one side of the brain, depending on the side of the sensory stimulation. These exercises can include balancing on one leg, pertussion therapy, strength training, aerobic exercises, stretches, cross-crawl exercises, eye exercises and more. It is important in every musculoskeletal and neurological conditions to increase the brains connections with the body. We have seen this therapy to be an integral part in reducing the re-occurrence rate of many injuries.

Massage Therapy- As an invaluable tool in our arsenal, our doctors and practitioners are well aware of the benefits of therapeutic massage and its ability to facilitate healing through the treatment of muscular and fascial ailments. Our licensed massage therapist combine their schooling and experience with the rigors of numerous conditions that are seen in our advanced rehabilitation setting to provide you with the results oriented care you require.

Goal Oriented Care – From temporary relief to optimal performance and function, we support your goals. Most people begin chiropractic care to patch up their aches and pain. Some people will trail off after they start to feel better, however, conditions have a tendency to relapse when the injury has not been properly rehabilitated, so most patients choose to continue their care to help stabilize and strengthen problem areas to avoid a reoccurrence. Often patients will make regular visits even after they have been cleared by the doctor in order to preserve their progress and overall health. Periodic checkups can minimize the severity of flare-ups and many patients prefer this proactive approach to well-being.

Corrective Exercises – By providing one-on-one exercise training, we help patients re-condition themselves after an injury and help them to strengthen targeted muscles to prevent future re-injury. By focusing on muscle memory, we encourage body awareness and help patients facilitate muscles that have fallen “asleep”. We also offer a progressive resistance workout to help reinforce postural muscles as well as increase core strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance.

Nutritional Counseling - We provide nutritional education including information on the most current, literature-researched supplements. Patients can complete a dietary analysis in order to determine what nutritional supplements and healthy food choices will help enhance their return to optimal health.

Orthotics - Your feet are the foundation for your body. We can now scan your feet to determine imbalances such as flat feet, excessive pronation, or supination. Having custom made orthotics delivered can alleviate symptoms related to heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, knee and hip pain, SI joint and lower back pain, poor posture, and even neck pain.

Spinal and Postural Screenings - Posture and spinal screenings can reveal important health information and unlock the door to improved function and well-being. We provide screenings at health fairs and local companies. To arrange a screening at your event or workplace, please contact our office at (865) 524-1234.

Lifestyle Advice - We often find it helpful to “coach” our patients on certain activities they should adapt or avoid. We encourage them in making behavioral adjustments so that they do not aggravate their particular health challenge. Our goal is to help every patient achieve a fulfilling and happy lifestyle full of the activities they enjoy most!

Workplace and community workshops- We strive to continually provide the community and its’ businesses with high quality health-based workshops that are tailored towards their needs such as Ergonomics, conditions, health tips, nutritional, posture, injury prevention, health living, and many more.
